Don't agree with the straight red Cahill got on the challenge yesterday.  But he was the idiot that did it.  That is effectively the end of his WC career and probably the end of the Aussie bid in the WC.

On another note, Oranje are up 1-0 on a funky little own goal by Denmark.

Agree!

These refs have not been afraid to pull out a card.  Glad the are giving yellows for diving.  And what is with the intentional hand balls this weekend?

Yes, they definitely have been free with the yellows.  And completely agree with the yellows for diving.  2 to Germany yesterday.

And there have been a plethora of handballs.  I blame Henry.

Netherlands win 2-0.  First goal off a funky little own goal off of Agger's back.  Second goal was by Dirk Kuyt.  Interesting.  Both of them are Liverpool fans.  HA!  Funny in my mind.

Oranje did not look good in the first half.  Second half, they started to open up the play which ultimately lead to the two goals.  They almost had another except for a CRAZY save by a defender right on the goal line and a back kick.

Elia looked really good in the second half for the Oranje.  It was only a matter of time before he created an opportunity.  Kuyt did a great job of being in the right place when Elia took that shot.

Although Denmark didn't have a strong frontline I still think the Netherlands defense did a solid job.  Allowed only like 3 shots on goal and 2 corners.  We'll see how they fair against a stronger offense.

Argh!  Missed watching the Netherlands.  I am at work.  So no WC during the weekdays.  Trying to sneak in some internet times.

I read about the referees and their lack of experiences.  Some of them have never ref for an international game.
Not sure how it's going affect the results.

I've watched all but 1 match so far and would say that the officiating has been O.K.  A few missed calls and a couple of questionable.  It's still early in the tournament so we'll see how the refs fair and play gets more intense.

It was pretty, wasn't it.  And Italy, is NOT looking good at all.  Not that I'm disappointed.

Today is a day of vastly different matches.  NZ All Whites are currently down 1-0 in the 63rd minute in the Minnow Bowl against Slovakia.  Second match, Portugal v. Ivory Coast has the chance to be the match of the day, especially if Drogba is going to be back.  News report says his cast has been approved.  And then finally Brazil v. North Korea, World's Best versus one of the World's Worst.  Could be entertaining.

NZ should stick to sailing, not football.  You don't score goals by keeping the ball in your own half

Unfortunately, you are right.  They have had only a very few chances, which is a shame.  This was their one opportunity to get a goal AND get a point.

ETA: Actually make that sailing and Rugby.

To quote one of the late commentator in Hong Kong - "the ball is round.  Anything can happen".
Didn't get to watch the game but followed it online at the FIFA site with text description.
Good job NZ!  Happy with the results as I bet for a tie game for this one in the company pool.

What a terrible showing by both Portugal and the Ivory Coast.  Sloppy play by both sides.  Hope someone steps it up in the second half

Portugal is a one-man team.  And looks like they didn't take Ivory Coast seriously.

I had a feeling this was going to happen.  Dunga was a defender and he has built this team around the less beautiful game than we are used to seeing out of Brasil.

You can really tell what Dunga has done.  They have dominated time of possession but I feel like they missed a few opportunities by adding one (two, three...) too many touches on the ball.  Korea was nervous for the first 30 minutes and yet Brasil has kept them in the match.
