Less than 3 weeks to go!  Went to the Gardens Friday night and ran part of the run course and drove the bike loop.  A few of us are planning on meeting there this Wednesday at 6 PM to swim, bike one loop and run 5K of the 5 mile course.

Where does the swim begin and end?  I understand it is a U shaped course.  Do you start at the beach area, swim around the shore to the main boat house and cut across the middle of the lake to transition?  Looking forward to my first race of this distance.

Here is a link to  the bike route.  The Oly will be two laps of this route.
http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-states/ga/pine+mountain/680127715160710192

The run has an out and back and then a loop around Robin Lake.  It is pretty flat with just a few gradual inclines.  I couldn't find a route on Mapmyrun or any other site for it.

Hopefully, based on many comments from previous years events, the race director will improve the security at the transition area, have someone monitoring the turnaround on the run and prevent cars from being on the bike course during the race.  Last year I ran the 5K that was going on the same time as the Tri.  There were runners going one way on the very winding road, bikers going the other direction and cars going both ways.  It was challenging just running...being on a bike in that crowd will be a real challenge.

The bike route has a few long gradual inclines, but no real hills to climb.  Parts of the course have a lot of curves.  Should be a fun race.

Thx. Any links to the prior race results?  Looking to see what kind of bike times ppl had, that should be a good indicator of the course.

When you leave transition on the run do you go clockwise or counterclockwise around Robin's Lake?

Clockwise, you run on some trails first thru the woods, then double back around the lake.

Wondering if there's a cut off time. I'm signed up but will need to either dnf after the bike or walk most of the run due to a long story involving ongoing plantar faciitis.

I believe the cut off time is 3 hours.  Even if you walk the 5 miles you can probably make the the cutoff.  The awards start at 11 AM with the race beginning at 8 AM.

I'm looking forward to this race, but I'm quite disappointed in not being able to find enough information about it; maps, race reports, results, etc.

I looked at the "calloway gardens website" for their property map to see where everything is going on and it's a joke. Can't zoom in, can't look at the course, can't see names, etc.

I understand that it's a bit of a shortened olympic, but still.

The link for the course from mapmyrun makes it look really technical! And it may not help, but I tried calling the director for the race and all I ever get is the voicemail. To their defense, they call me back the next day, but still.

Either way, we'll be there Fri night, easy jog/ride on Saturday and then the race on Sunday. Maybe I'll meet up with some fellow BTers.

Thats why im NOT doing anymore Dave Johnson races. He never caps them and they get to big for the venue and he has no event website for info. Just sub-par, sorry.

I called and he emailed me a map of the routes.  I am very familar with the roads and paths at Callaway and I still don't know where the run goes!

He said the first loop of the run is counterclockwise and the second one is clockwise.  Based on the map he sent the run would be over 6 miles.

The bike is technical with several 90 degree turns and sharp curves.  I road it yesterday after a heavy rain and the roads were slick and covered in pine straw, pine cones, sweetgum balls, sticks and leaves.  Hopefully, the race will be dry and the streets swept.

I will see if I can scan the map and post it here of the routes.

Tried adding the map as an attachment but it is too big.  Will try again later.

I will be doing this tri again this year and I think it is a nice low key event.  The gardens is a great spot for a race and very scenic.  The lake swim is nice and the first 1/4 of the swim is in pretty shallow water.  The ride is gentle rolling hills and only a couple of tight turns.  The run is an out and back and again just rolling hills. Hope you all enjoy it and have a great race

The mapmyride route is what I was riding but it is only an 8.6 mile loop.  The correct route is 9.5 for a total of 19 miles.

Should be fun and the weather will be nice - low in the high 60s and highs in the mid 80s.

Here is a link to the route.  The map does not show all the new roads in Callaway Gardens but this is pretty close to the actual route.

I think that is enough of the route!   Now time to swim, bike and run.

Guess it's a good thing I'm going over Friday. I guess I'll ride the course 1 loop on Sat just to check things out...

The start will be from the transition area which is beside Robin Lake beach, on the far north end of the parking lot.  It is on the bottom left of the scanned document.
