I'm going to be riding the course for the first time Sunday. Anything I should be weary about? I'm taking a map/smartphone with me to help guide the way. Also starting from firemans park.

Couple things I learned today on my first ride on IMOO course. There are some hills! Doesn't bother me much though. I have plenty to train on here. Second...is it just me, or was the last time they fixed stagecoach road back when stage coaches were still in use? Hehe. It and the road leading up to it were pretty bad. Otherwise I think it's an awesome course.

Definitely need to train on more hills for me. Sauk pass was tough but that one shortly after it took my legs on the second loop I did. So if anyone sees some farmer tanned legs laying around the top please ship them to me!

Great weekend though. Ran a little over 21 yesterday and rode 83 today. Tomorrow is a swim in the morning then easy does it.

So far so good.
This past Sat. morn was rainy and windy, but a group of us headed out and completed the one loop. Adjusting to crosswinds in the rain coming down a couple of the big downhills takes some concentration, confidence, and caution. One little mistake could allow the hydroplane to occur and WHOOP there you go skidding along dangerously.

Since I wanted to do 2 bike loops but didn't, I decided to run 15.5 miles after I got back home when the rain disappeared and the humidity rose - the temps hit above 85 and the humidity tried to take me down, but I made it I had to adjust my pace quite a bit, though, so that I could make it back home safely without finishing both water bottles of my 24 oz of InfinIT solution.

More heat, hills, and training coming, folks!

Keep it up and enjoy!

Nice work guys with the rides and runs with the rainy weather and the heat and the humidity, way to go. I did my first race of the season this past Sunday the Syracuse 70.3. Same deal, challenging course and it was hot and humid. I think it hit 90 degrees. We all also got the thunderstorms at the end. I finished in a torrential down pour of rain along with all the thunder and lightning.

I will say it was a great tune up for IMWI. The Syracuse course has some of the same aspects on the bike course at Wisconsin. It also has some of the same scenery so it was a great race for me to be able do being that I will not have the priviledge of riding the course until I get to Madison on race week.
The Syracuse run course is brutal though! I've posted a race report, all and all a good day even with all the crazy weather. Now to take it to the next level and after this week the peak training period begins.

Will have to check the RR some time later. Racing in those conditions are quite brutal, and if you don't train as you would race, one will suffer, for sure.

Another long weekend ahead. 45 mile / 12 mile Brick Saturday followed by a 100 mile bike on Sunday.

It hasn't been overly hot here in Madison, just very humid which has me sweating buckets. Lost 3lbs of water weight on my 7 mile hill interval the other day. Seems like a lot for only an hour run

Biking the loop twice tomorrow. Was reminded that there is a local tri occurring and non-participants may have some issues on the corner of Bruce and Paoli starting around 7 am because of the tri.

Some good solid workouts this weekend, nice work guys. I finished my second and last race yesterday before IMWI. I did a local Oly and pretty much matched my time from last year. I was 35 seconds slower. I went out as hard as I could but I'm thinking there were a couple of reasons I didn't do better. It's the first time I've raced back to back weekends and I'm coming off a very tough race in Syracuse doing the HIM last weekend. The humidty here in NY has been brutal and I don't think I've acclimated to that yet either. It showed yesterday, I did better with my swim and bike but I was 6 minutes slower on the run. In any case I had a great time and with the races out of the way the focus is now totally on getting ready for IMWI. Not much time left.

Well I went on the group ride last night and at about the 16th mile marker(it's a 22 mile loop we do) I bonked and got dropped. Chalked it up to poor nutrition from the previous night at work. Good old burger and chips for dinner that night. That's about the only thing I could think of that caused me to have that happen was improper fueling from the day before. Was a little dizzy/lightheaded when I got home but once I got some calories into me I was fine. Oh well, live and learn.

Today is a big day for me. Had to move my weekend training to today due to working nights last weekend. It's a "Big Day" in Joel Friels plan for me. 1 hour swim, followed by a 90 minute break. Then a 5 hour ride (all at IM pace), 90 minute break. Then a 2 hour run. Been looking forward to this workout since about 3 months ago. Hopefully I can nail my nutrition down good today or find any kinks I have in my armor and adjust for my next "Big Day" in 4 weeks!

Nice work, peeps!

I planned on an 18-miler run yesterday, Sun. 7/7, but bonked and experienced either heat exhaustion and/or dehydration starting on my 2nd 6-mile loop course in the sultry 90 deg. starting around 10 am. I had to walk most of the time since I didn't think I would react quick enough to use my cell if I continued to jog. Everytime I tried jogging, I had problems breathing, my heart would race beyond the norm, my ring of vision would start to close in, and I had a pain/pressure build up behind one of my eyes. Wasn't good.

I'm evaluating my nutrition/hydration intake more carefully.

Took 2nd place overall at an international (tad shorter bike/run) tri on Sunday. There were "pros/elites" there as well and I beat 6 of them as well. If you count them in with us age groupers I was ninth overall.

Dropped about 12 minutes off my time from last year and I averaged 23.3 mph which was faster than I have ever averaged in a race. Swim went really well too. Fastest age grouper swim time and fifth with the pros I believe. It was a good weekend for me!

That sounds pretty scary to be honest. I would agree it probably was do to the heat and maybe dehydration. I hope you are feeling better.

After 3 down weeks with travel and then back to back races I was finally able to get back into my training and put up a decent 14.5 hour week last week. I had some good workouts especially on the bike. I'm hoping to do more this week, so far so good. Less than 9 weeks to go need to get as much work in as I can.

Very cool and I hope you enjoyed the wedding and the rides out there. Dune Rd. is a nice road to ride. The trip up into the Hamptons is pretty nice too. Always lot's of people riding out that way.
