It appears that her Yantiness did not make the cutoff. I'm sorry, Yanti.

I just checked the website and it lists the elapsed time as 16:46.  This at 8:18 am local Perth time.

Congrats Yanti on making it so far....it isn't quitting when you're forced to stop! Good I wasn't there or I probably would have tried to beat up the cutoff people! 17 hours is, after all, arbitrary. I understand the need for a time limit, logistically, and I know it's kind of a "sacred" tradition (which I personally think is kind of silly if the point of the event is supposed to be endurance, but what do I know?), but I have no doubt that given a bit more time, you would have gone the distance.  I'm in awe of your endurance and persistence. A few more months of decent health and training and you'll have more than what it takes to be an Ironwoman, or Ironman, or....whatever!

I understand it is not "official", but we have no idea if she is still going.

Hot Runner - 2012-12-09 7:32 AM Aaaargh! I'm "hitting the wall" trying to stay awake till the bitter (or happy) end!  Haven't done an Ironman so don't really get it about the cutoffs. Do they just make everyone stop on the course at 17 hours, or are there cutoffs at the other time points en route? What if somebody just keeps going?
yes there are numerous cutoffs along the course.  You have to so the swim in I think 2:20 then there are cutoff points along the bike and the run courses which vary from course to course

I hope she is safe and sound.  Would be great if she finished but no race is worth jepordizing your health and she has been thru a lot the last couple years health wise.  Stay safe and Healthy Yanti!!

Can you just keep going and finish unofficially?  My only experience with cutoffs was a marathon in China where they (in some cases, literally) pulled people off the course if they missed the time. Do IM races do this, or can you still finish if you want, even if there's no medal or "You are an Ironman!"? (If so, I imagine Yanti is probably still out there!)

It depends on the RD, I would assume.  I have seen it at a few Ironmans i have been a spectator at.

Here's the link to the live feed. It's past the official cut-off but they haven't shut down the video stream yet.

I know at LP last year there was a guy still on the course who was clearly going to miss the cutoff, and Andy Potts went out and ran in with him. 17:03 I believe. But we were breaking down the aid station at 17 hours and by 17:30 trucks were on the course cleaning up. So I guess it depends.

She is 40 minutes over due for the 31.5 split, and they are still updating. Perhaps Our wonderful Yanti is taking a break and smiling. More than likely there is a mellon press involved. It's been a great race Yanti. Thanks for letting me tag along. Tell us all about it!!!.

There was that guy from "Biggest Loser" that did one. He missed the cuttoff, but kept going. Then after some time, the officials were about to pull him, but he crossed the line. He said he would make that cutoff next year. I thought that was more incredible than him actually making the cutoff.

At the last IM athletes meeting I went to they said that, why highly not recommended, they would let you stay out on the course for as long as you needed. You would have to sign a waiver stating that you understand that you are out there on your own (without aid, medical, etc) and the WTC is longer responsible for you...

Great effort, Yanti!! You had a large group of "spectators" cheering you on over the internet all night...We can't wait to hear about your experience. As many have stated already, you are our Ironman!!

I cannot even begin to express how deeply moved I am. Believe me, I absolutely sensed and flew on all your support out there today.

I had a "discussion" with the official after lap 3--civil but pretty insistent on both sides. I really wanted to try for the last 10km.

Not sure how I feel about the finish line staying open to 17:20 (I might have made that. VERY tight, but maybe). Not sure it really matters to me, actually. I had a blast out there and the very, very best part -- of today, and most days -- was all of you.

An absolutely AMAZING accomplishment for someone who has had maybe a total of 8 weeks of solid training after being deathly ill too many times over the last year to count!

I thus dub thee - TITANIUM YANTI!
