Has anybody heard of these and are they worth it if you cannot afford a true aero wheel.

Yes, that is the disc cover made by Wheelbuilder and they are VERY popular and I've seen estimates that they give you about 95% of the benefits of an actual disk.

You do need to ensure that your wheel is compatible, but it is a great way to get aero inexpensively.

+1, it is an excellent investment but do make sure your wheel is compatible.

Works great, easy and quick to install and remove.

I am getting ready to start my third season with the Wheelbuilder Aerojacket. I am definitely faster with it on. I left it off for one race last season and I was disappointed at my bike pace so I won't make that mistake again.

For $100, plus or minus, you can get almost all the benefit (or more) of a true disk. It doesn't sound as cool though.

Totally worth it.

I just got mine and installed it yesterday.  Putting the 60mm front on today for my "aero on the cheap".  Or, cheap-ish I guess.

I'm super excited to use it this weekend in a Du.

Am I the only one who doesn't see a wheel cover in Jason's picture?

I changed my profile picture a week ago.  Not sure why, but sometimes it takes a little while for people to see the update.

Tracking mine via FedEx right now. Using it on my stock Felt TTR4 wheel over using my Hed3 rear so it better be faster

That's my current dilemma.  I am not chasing a Kona spot or anything, and would be covering an already heavier wheel.  Really just looking at it because I need new toys (which is, I understand, reason enough)

Yep.  I use one and love it.  I also have a Chinese carbon front as well.  ~$300 for as aero a wheelset as you can get without spending big $.

I'm not so much worried about weight (could drop a few pounds from the engine). Really bought it for the same reason. Who doesn't love new *cheap* toys? I train on my Hed3's so now I have a dedicated race "disc" which also doubles as my trainer tire

Which means you'll be faster on the trainer.

Yes, if compatible.

And if you're cheap and like to tinker you can always make your own!

Unfortunately, no wom wom, and an occasional crash crash noise when you hit a bump, but aero-wise its just as good as a disc.

It doesn't make that wom wom wom sound.  If you go over some really rough road, it does chatter a little.  Not so much if you use electrical tape around the edges.

They do rattle a bit over rough roads.  Mine is over a 404.  But otherwise good...not like a full disk sound though.  The pros outweigh the rattles for $100.

I have one, am happy with it.

BUT, I use the wheel for training, and don't keep the cover when training.  To install/remove the cover, you're looking at 30 minutes or so.  You need to remove the cassette for this operation.  So you need a chain whip and cassette wrench tool.

Another little thing to remember; if you have a bike rack such as a Yakima roof rack, that has a strap that goes through the wheel to strap it down, the cover may be an issue.

The fit issue is not only your wheel/hub, but the bike frame also.  The website has info on it, and when in doubt, email them, they are pretty responsive to questions.

Probably closer to 5 minutes.
