J got the job! Background check cleared on his first choice job, start date is July 11th. I am so happy and so relieved. Things were never bad, but they were starting to get uncomfortably tight. Thank goodness nothing happened with the car or our health. Much thanks to the Pod for keeping us in your thoughts. I'm a big believer in sending energy out into the universe, whether you call it vibes, prayer, thoughts, what have you. :D
Three day weekend, the job, and J's birthday on Tuesday. Can you smell the biggest steak dinner of all time? I think you can!

I feel that the Strava group is in addition to the mentor group.  If she joins the mentor group and participates here...  Does that make sense?

OK  I can tell her to post over here in the thread.  She's not racing much--but loves to ride

HOORAY!!!!

Is anyone racing this holiday weekend?! We're headed to VT tomorrow night to do my long run with my cousin and swim in the lake a bit. So I'm outta here.

Good luck to everyone racing! There must be something, right? 5k? No?

Anne Baker is really good people on the other hand, having an endorsement from me is highly suspect

GO RACING MANATEES!!!

Every week in my life is crazy but especially so with famous kitty Smoky defying death yet again. He was actually supposed to come home from hospital today (weeks ahead of schedule, more likely to prevent staff from murdering him than anything) but mounted an escape attempt resulting in popped stitches and a rather bitten-up staff in trying to recapture him. There was duct tape on TOP of the lock in the latch on his cage today!

Really, I canNOT imagine where he gets such ideas ... from his father, surely. :P

AND CONGRATULATIONS TO MR VIVALDI on the job

No racing but lots of other people in town are....Eugene has descended into absolute nuttiness (more than "normal") with the arrival of the Olympic Track and Field Trials. Superfit people running all over town at alarming paces and track groupies everywhere. A bunch of guys were sprinting down our hill (a good four miles from the track) when I left the house this morning, and I nearly hit a Kenyan in the parking lot of few days ago. Keep debating if I want to bite the bullet and buy a Trials ticket for the day, but they are not cheap and most of the available seats are so far from the finish that I could see it better on TV. Might go down to the fan fest and expo tomorrow and see if there is anything interesting on offer.

All the runners and track fans are of course showing off all their fancy race shirts and such, so Mom and I are being "tools" as well with all the IM, Hall of Fame, Olympic Trials, etc. gear we can dredge up. Promised her I would load up at Worlds--silly to admit but one of the main reasons I want to go is to get the T-shirt! I imagine Boulder for tri is somewhat similar to Eugene for running--it's pretty common that the person ahead of you in line at coffee (or, worse yet, in your AG at a local 5K) has been to the Olympics or is hoping to do so soon. Planning to do my long run on the river trail tomorrow (very near campus) so imagine I will see some very fast people then!

Sounds reasonable to me. She would be a good Manatee. I'll have to suggest it to her

Your old marathon time would still make the B standard today, so you kind of fit in?

The running aspect of an Ironman triathlon is a marathon. Most people take on a marathon as a single event and the training for this uses up a lot of their time. Here are some tips for the run.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
