Subject: Mooseman Triathlon Festival - Half Iron Distance

I just noticed that Ron is signed up for the International distance race on Saturday. Guess that leaves the the 1/2 Iron to me. Smile

I'm doing my first marathon in early May, but otherwise I'll be training specifically for this race. I'll probably be using the 20 week Half Ironman Training Plan. Gotta check with Mike Ricci on that. 20 weeks puts training starting on January 14, so if anyone is interested in tracking our training together for this race, that's when it'll start.

Anyone planning on making this their first 1/2 Iron?

Timberman will be my first 1/2 Iron.  I'm starting with the Winter Maintenance Plan (running focused), then in Jan. starting the 20-week Olympic plan (building to Mooseman), then the 1/4 to 1/2 Iron bridge plan.  I need SERIOUS riding time this winter!

I tried one of the pre-packaged training plans last season, but because my work schedule is so all over the place as far as hours (12-hour shifts, days, nights, weekends) I found that I really needed to be more flexable.  I've been reading the TTB and have put together the annual plan so far, and will arrange my weekly training plans as the time nears on a week-by-week basis.

Right now I am in the Transistion period and will start Prep phase on Nov 20 and then begin Base1 period the week of  Dec 25th.

Uh oh, Marmadaddy, am I not allowed to play as a B(eginner)Ter?

Mooseman HIM will be my 8th HIM, 2nd of 2007 after FL 70.3, and my 2nd year in a row doing Mooseman.

2006- It rained all weekend and the run was one of the hardest I've ever done coming off the hilly bike I was unprepared for and being my second half in 2 weeks...but it was still an awesome event and I'm doing both races again this upcoming season. Actually I'm a bit upset that I can't do Timberman 70.3 too since I'll be in Hawaii. Keith Jordan puts on awesome events no matter what the weather conditions are and its great that BT is getting more involved with them.

I'll be at both Timberman and Mooseman, but won't be racing

BTW, extended weather forecast calls for 75 and sun for both Mooseman and Timberman weekends in 2007. We're due after the weather debacle in 2006

Mooseman weather is typically mid 70's at that time of the year. Of course, 2 years ago it was 90, humid, and sunny....last year it was 55 and raining. We had to pump out the transition area with an industrial strength sump pump and lay down sawdust just to have a place to walk in transition it was raining so hard.... Ahhh, New England weather

Mooseman is an awesome venue. I LOVE the bike course, it's really beautiful. The run is nice too, right on the lake. Definitely not an easy course, though....

Of course you are! You can be the playground monitor. Smile

We'll be counting on you to save some food for us slowpokes. Tongue out

Ron and I will be at both Timberman and Mooseman with our families. The line to volunteer for babysitting starts here.

This will be my second HIM but my 1st was such a train wreck on the nutrition front that I have tried to block it from my mind.

Actually, you guys did a fantastic job dealing with the conditions. Had this been a lesser organized event, the day probably would have sucked. But, at no point during the race did I mid the weather as I everyone, including myself, was having a BLAST! (Same went for T-Man.)

Looking forward to doing the 1/2 this time around.

I'd prefer us to be less organized, if it meant nice weather

92 and sunny in 2005...go figure

The good news, I don't have to buy any sponges this year. Didn't use a single one for Mooseman or Timberman last year. The misting tents are still packed away too

Thoughts of "misting Tents" at either Moose or Timber-Men last year just made me laugh out loud! :-)

count me in for a first timmer at a 1/2 IM this year at the Moose. Would love to do Timber too, but too close to Cranberry, and I am trying to swing the Patriot (sorry Keith) 30 days after Moose. I will still have to negotiate that one with the wife. BTW I made some calls, you can count on the weather

well, 2 years ago it was about 88 for the race, so you could feel right at home. Of course, they don't make hills in FL like the ones at Mooseman

Thankfully im from this area and was only in florida for two years. Although you get used to the nice warm sunny weather real fast. I just need to get used to getting out of the saddle for something other then sprinting.

I am planning on going up on Friday after work as of right now. I will be staying in the tent city. I know Ron and Marmadaddy will be there. I intend on getting together with as many BTers as I can. Any Moose vetrans that can give some suggestions would be appreciated.
