Got a little case of runners high during my brick today!

Also, I was selected to the Snickers Marathon Team too.

Will round out a 19 hour week today.  Solid week.  I swam 3800 meters straight.  Ran a 20 mile race 2:30 (7:31 pace) and got to ride outside for 4:42 and went 85 miles.  Feeling good.  Keep it going IMAXers.

Recovery week ending with 109 mile ride from hell! After that ride I kept wondering what the hell have I gotten myself into but after a nap and early to bed night...I'm ok...for now...

I'm feeling pretty good! Did 80 miles in 4:23 on Thursday, and got in a 15 mile trail run today. I am SO looking forward to race day. It's the reward for all this hard work!

Its going terribly and its depressing. Finally gave up and withdrew today. Injured my knee New Years Day on a long slow run. Intense medial compartment pain and 4+ joint effusion. MRI demonstrated pretty significant progression of the joint disease. At first couldnt even spin 'cause there was so much fluid. After the joint was aspirated managed to keep my swimming yds and cycling miles up, but couldnt jog even 50 yards. I've gone through a series of Euflexxa (hyaluronic acid) injections and a steroid injection. Last week was the first time I was able to manage even a 5k without excessive pain, although the fluid returned, but not as bad. The joint is relatively pain free finally, and rehab continues, but theres no way its gonna go 26.2 in April, and I stopped kidding myself. I'm going to try to nurse things along until the 70.3 Florida race, and hopefully slowly build to IM Florida in the fall. Sigh... I have never felt quite so old. Good luck to all of you in Tempe.

Race day is getting closer and I'm getting scared. I don't know if I can do this. Ran 13 miles yesterday and boy did it hurt. I have no idea how I'm going to go twice that far after biking 112 mi.

Some members of my tri club and I are heading up to Tempe this weekend to train on the course. Sat will be 100 mi bike and 3 mi run brick, and Sun I'm doing 1 loop of the run course. Maybe that will make me more confident. Maybe it will have the opposite effect and I'll be screwed.

I know that must have been hard for you exnavydoc!  I have been struggling with injuries and I was fearful I would have to withdraw.  My injuries turned the right way lucky for me.  Good luck to you getting ready for IMFL and I hope your injuries don't keep you out for long.

20-mile run on Saturday, although my HR was elevated significantly. I actually skipped my 5-hour ride yesterday because of it. I'll make up some of it with a 3-hour trainer ride tonight.

I definitely can't miss any more 5+ hour rides, though. I only have a chance for 3 more: the 3rd, the 10th, and the 31st. I can't do a long ride on the 17th because I'll be on vacation in Myrtle Beach. I don't want to do one on the 24th either because I'm looking to PR at the Cap 10k the next day. That just leaves those 3 dates before taper starts!

Gees you guys are logging a lot of hours.  I did a 20 mile run yesterday and will do a couple more.  Haven't really started on the bike training but will get going on that.  I'm not so worried as I'm not trying to win the race, just going to go out there and have some fun.  didn't train much last year for it and still managed to finish.  I'm hoping to get in under 15 hours so if I just use my aerobars and not stop to pee all the time like I did last year and with the 35 pound weight loss i should be ok.  IMWI is a different story as i'll be able to get out on the bike all summer.

Not to hijack this thread but if some of the peeps in AZ that belong to a tri or running club that are beginner friendly, can you please reply to this thread I put out on the main tri section.

    Thanks.

exnavydoc - I'm depressed about your injury news & I know it's got to be difficult and frustrating. Rest that knee, get it well & we'll look forward to your RR from IMFL.
pirategirl - I can relate... Running is painful but, stay positive, keep training & I think you'll be just fine.
...and, I'll second the impressive training by everyone! Ya'll keep me inspired to stay on plan & focus on the race.

I am doing real well with my training, but I am sick of the pool. I have been cutting my swims shorter than I should be due to feeling drudged out and bored in the pool. I can't wait to get to the lake.

I hereby summon the big orange ball in the sky to warm the water! Warm water warm!

I am going to order ProMotion tri sleeves for under my Zoot sleeveless so I can get out there sooner than later. Oh, and a neoprene hood and neoprene socks.... I want OWS!!!

Overall, my training is going well but the last two weeks have been low mileage. Two weeks ago (week of 2/12) I swam 4200 yards, biked 66 miles, and ran 11 miles, with two days off. It was something of a recovery week.

Unfortunately, this last week (2/19) I had a business trip to Toronto and only managed one, 60 minute run. I made up a bit of it Saturday with a 17.66 mile trail run and on Sunday with a 50 minute swim in the morning and an hour on the trainer with a 20 minute run. The totals were still low - 2200 yards swimming, 21 miles on the bike, 26.46 miles run total.

This week is fairly aggressive with a lot of trainer time. Today I swam 70 minutes total (2800 yards) so it's off to a good start.

So far I've been doing pretty well...the only workout I've missed in about the past 6 weeks was a 90 minute moderate run, which was made up with 1h15 of ice skating and a long walk in the park with my wife.

Numbers have been pretty good - averaging around 11-12000m in the pool, about 10hrs on the bike (200ish miles probably) and close to 40 miles of running. I'm praying praying praying this is adequate, as I've got the newbie jitters about the distance, and I'm really starting to wonder whether what I'm doing is enough.

I too am sick of the pool. When I get back from my long swims (generally 6-7000m in a day) I can't even shower, since I can't stand the feeling of being wet. Blech.

But overall, good. At least I hope.

    Adequate to achieve what goal?

Your numbers seem quite high to me. I finished in 13:21 last year with less training than I'm doing this year, and my training this year seems about 2/3rds of yours.

I'm training less than I did last year, too, and I am pretty confident I will beat my 14:30 time from last year.

I remember feeling all the doubt all you first timers are feeling now. I remember riding 80, 100 miles and wondering how in the world I was going to run a marathon after that!! I remember my longest run, 18 miles, and how much I hurt after that (enough that I had to get a cortisone shot) and wondering if I would physically be able to finish.

I hate the pool. Hate hate hate it. I am a terrible swimmer but during the race I went really slow because I DIDN'T WANT IT TO END!!! I had been waiting for that race for SO long and the entire day i just enjoyed it and reveled in it. It is your reward for all this self doubt, all these hours, all the neglected parts of your life right now. It is FUN and easy compared to the training. Just trust me on this, ok?? You will all finish, you will all be Ironmen on April 15th!! We will all do it!
