As of today, I'm 8 out of 20.

Couldn't bike for a few weeks because of the broken big toe but if I do three commutes per week in August, I'll be right on for my July/August goal!

Well it looks like I will come up short to, no worries I'm not all about a number anyway it gives me something to shoot for. 4 more this week should give me 28/50. I plan to ride 4-5 next week and do a 150 m on the 21st. Columbia to Myrtle Beach Hooah!! Great job everybody, it does me tons of good to know I'm not alone in my effort!!

later,

I started and finished this week with a commute, so 2 more for me. I'm 23.5/48. Hopefully, I'll be able to get 3 per week in for the rest of the month.

Got 5 commutes in this week and 14 work days left in the challenge. I should hit my stated goal, but my overall optimistic goal seems like a stretch and my "mid range" goal is a little on the high side too but still reachable.

73/80 as of tonight.

Everyone, you are doing great things!  Keep it up through August and beyond

Rode in today, and I got a couple this weekend, puts me up to 37 of 50.  Of course summer doesn't really end here in West Texas.  So September 1 is just a date to reset the counter.  Although if everything works out I may just make the 50.  When you start to get close - that's when the challenge really kicks in.

25 days left in the challenge!

I'm up to 35 of 45. I'm on the work schedule for 10 more days before September, so if I don't get called off and bike every work day, I'll meet my goal - unlikely.

Only 1 ride for me this week - the heat this week was brutal.

Don't worry if you set yourself an overly ambitious goal - just ride as much as you can.

Of course, everyone is welcome to keep up the bike commuting for as long as the weather allows.

Hey folks quick question,

I rode in to work on monday with two friends and while going down a slight grade I was leading in the aero position and was hit from my right side with a very quick burst of wind, it hit me hard enough that I was pushed out into the lane. My friend who was drafting off me fell when my rear tire hit his front. Are winds like this common? Weirdest thing i have ever seen???? Sorry for the diversion, just kinda scared me to be honest...I plan to ride again in the morning, we plan on spreading our distance out some. Currently 32/50

can't never did and won't ever will

Thanks for the tip Bopper, my buddy for sure want be riding that close behind me again. I don't make practice of getting that close to the guy in front of me. It just seems like you'd be asking for what happened to my friend happen to ya. I was not aware of the winds and their prevalence. Thanks again, today puts me at 33/50.

i had a similar expirience about a year ago but i was alone. cruising down hill about 30 mph with buildings on my right. when i came to a intersection with no buildings i was hit by a gust of wind that pushed me about 4' into the parking lane. thankfully there were no cars parked but if there had been im sure i would have made a trip to the hospital. i have since coasted down this hill but have not had a cross wind since weird.

Hey bike commuters,

I was up at 41 a few weeks ago (see p.9) but am now proud to say that I made my full 50 commutes as of last Friday, Aug 17. I'm a finisher -- yay!

I'm even happier to say that I gave it my best today at Timberman 70.3, even though a spectacular finish wasn't in the cards. The bike had been rough, and the run, worse. At least I finished.

Cheers, -Sunny

P.S. Tim - how nice that you have a well-paved direct route now; it's like the town has lain out the "red carpet" for you!

P.P.S. I still have the mom-cat and kitten that I got from the shelter in July. They're keepers now, no more foster pet-parenting for us. That doesn't mean we're going to ride around with them in backpacks anytime soon though. Maybe panniers or a basket?
