Total Time = 1h 03m 45s
Overall Rank = 32/113
Age Group = 50-54
Age Group Rank = 1/6
Pre-race routine:

The usual: coffee, bagel, shower, shave and dress. Drive 90 minutes north to race site with Angel. Get packet, set up transition.
Event warmup:

No warmup, busy visiting.
Swim
  • 12m 32s
  • 547 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

At T-gator #3 here last year, same swim, I went out too fast, lost my breath, panicked, and nearly drowned. Was a lot more cautious this year.

Turned out to be a non-event of a swim, best pace I could muster, didn't get too badly trampled by the ladies in the wave behind me.
What would you do differently?:

Learn how to do this right.
Transition 1
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

Short (50 yd) run from river to transition. Got helmet on and left, decent mount, got up to speed and put shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, pretty clean. Weren't but 10 or so faster.
Bike
  • 33m 57s
  • 13 miles
  • 22.97 mile/hr
Comments:

From the start there was a young guy in front of me hugging the center line. Coming out the park I hollered "on your left" to get hinm to move over, had to do this several times as he would pass me, hug the middle, then I'd pass him. After the race he apologized and said he had wrecked last year riding the shoulder, and was a little skeered. I told him about blocking penalties and that he was lucky he didn't get written up. ;)

Other than that, decent ride. Seemed to be a slight headwind or rise going out, as I was about a full mph coming back in.
What would you do differently?:

Not race the day before? I could feel yesterday in my legs, proably could have gone faster on fresher wheels.
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

Ended up passing middle-line guy on the right coming into transition. Dismount was perfect, short run to rack, put on shoes and grabbed race number, then had to run the length of tansition to the run exit.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, again this was pretty clean.
Run
  • 15m 22s
  • 2 miles
  • 07m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

Too short and painful to even think about it.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. As I said about yesteday's race, my running is still not where it should be due to injuries.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some gatorade, watched the other finishers come in. About five minutes after I finished, Angel walked up and said, "you finished too soon, I missed it." She was at a table grading papers and didn't even see me come in. Some support! At least I got her to drive home while I slept.

Second of two weekend races, my first double weekend. Race report from Saturday here: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Racing yesterday, insufficient run training, lack of swimming skills.

Event comments:

Second triathlon in a four-race series put on by the Lake Charles Triathlon Club. Good bare-bones race, well-organized, nice venue, no T-shirts, awards or amenities.

Nice race report and great pictures! You don't look too bad for an old man!

At least Angel was grading papers and not sleeping...I distinctly remember hearing something about Angel's marathon and you napping in your car.

Again...great race! Congrats (I think!?) on the first double weekend!
