abrezo - 2009-07-05 12:27 AM My question, possibly a new thread, but who here has actually qualified for Kona, no lottery?

Bryancd and Pseudoyams and tribullutter? are the 3 that come to mind... I think others have too.

tjfry - I remember him swimming under 1:00 on 2500 yards of swimming a week.(shaking head)

Lilia Paradis (Devotchkatata on BT) just KQ'd at CDA and  LarDog (Larry Davidson) KQ'd at IM WI a couple years ago as well

bryancd - 2009-07-03 9:36 AM Wow, I thought I was seeing things when this thread bumped up! In the nearly 2 years since I posted it, the only thing that has changed is that the overall paces have gotten even faster! Training, dedication, desire aren't enough anymore. You also need to be very fast at at least two of the sports.

You are not joking about KQ times getting ridiculously fast (almost to the point that you wonder if some of them have "help" if you get my drift).

I had a friend (one of our coaches) who absolutely trained to the hilt for IMCDA this year knowing he had to go sub 10 to pretty much guarantee a slot. Well he went up there and busted out a 9:58 on a tough day and ended up 13th!!! Luckily he got a roll down but honestly it shouldn't have been close.

Germany is a pretty fast course and based on the pro swim times and one AG'er I know who did the race, the swim might have been short by a few min.

Anyway, the classic combo of 1hr/5hr/3:30Hr to shoot for is just getting tighter and tighter. On a course like AZ or FL, if you aren't thinking 9:30 you are leaving your fate up to the bottom of the slots or having to pray for a rolldown.

yes I wonder too... check out IM Germany's AG times today.
Reminds me of when the guys were all hitting 60-70 HRs in MLB... you wanted to believe it was clean, but you were worried otherwise. Sometimes those worries are right, sometimes not.

That was the first thing that crossed my mind when I arrived in Kona. You hope everyone got that fast training clean, but with those times and no testing, it makes you wonder.
