Subject: Anyone here enjoy fishing?
I grew up doing a lot of hunting and fishing but as I moved away from home I gave it up.  Now that my son is 11, he has a huge passion for both so I have spent a lot of time getting back into these types of activities in order to spend fun time together.

We had pretty much hung up the fishing poles for the year as hunting season started.  However, when I got suckered into taking the wife to a baby shower today, I reminded my son that we could take our fishing poles along and fish a small nearby run to kill some time.  Well, it turned out to be a great idea.  In a run small enough for me to take a running leap across, I pulled out a 20" rainbow within 15 min of starting.  My son caught a nice 14" as well.

I have caught bigger fish but this has to be the biggest trout I have ever caught.  Amazingly, it has to be out of one of the smallest streams I have ever fished.  I guess that, and the fact that I got out of the baby shower, made it a great day.  ha!

Nice!
I used to fish a lot as a kid, but there's not much fishing here in Brooklyn. I try to take my son fishing every summer, though, either off a pier or on a day boat trip. I miss fishing in rivers and lakes though.

That's a HUGE trout! Nice!

I love fly fishing out here, so relaxing and fun, even when you don't catch a thing.

I love to fish!  But I've pretty much given it up for now b/c of tri training.  It can be a huge time commitment.

Large mouth bass is what I do most of.

Nice trout btw!  I hope you guys cooked and ate your catch.

when I was a kid I went fishing with my dad almost every weekend in the summer.  eventually stated fishing with friends and continued for a number of years but then I moved away from it.  The past couple years I started fishing with my kids.  My wife even enjoys going with us.  It's great family time...even if you are not cathing anything it can be a lot of fun!

I love to fish. I even have two boats, a bigger one I use to fish offshore and a "skinny water" boat I use inshore. I have a dock at my house, so I can keep the little boat out back. I used to fish almost every evening after dinner.
I had a friend visiting from out of town and we went out offshore. We only had the lines in for about 15 minutes when the largest yellowfin tuna I have ever seen took one of the baits. My friend was wildly excited, but I knew we had NO chance of bringing in a 250# tuna with only 400 meters of line. Sure enough, even though we tried to chase him with the boat, he spooled us and broke the line. Luckily, It broke near the hook so the fish wasn't swimming around with a long line trailing from it. That fish was probably worth a couple of thousand dollars if I could have caught it.

Very much so. I love the water (especially the ocean), I love boats, I love fishing, and I REALLY like eating fish.

Biggest fish: a 26lb yellowtail (not that big for a yellowtail but I won the trip jackpot) off Catalina Island, southern California.

Yes. I LOVE to fish!

Know next to nothing about it though, and usually just fish off the shore at  my cottage.
Awesome spot to catch large mouth bass..........
I need to get the courage up to do more than catch and release though.
I feel sorry for the fish , and always let them go! Yes. Really.

SURE DO!

That's a nice rainbow!

[HIJACK ON] I LOF largemouth bass fishing.  So does my BIL and nephew.  Bragging rights here - my nephew won all his tournaments this year and went to Nationals back in Oct.  Too bad that he didn't catch anything in Nationals, but WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!  Additionally, the young man that won 2nd place there was part of my BIL's team, and he won a BASS BOAT because the first place kid DIDN'T WEAR HIS SPONSOR SHIRT!!!  BIG TIME D'OH!!  [HIJACK OFF]

Wow, awesome brownie!

My son broke his arm 2 weeks into summer vacation this year so I bought 2 kayaks.  I would tow him around several of our local lakes so that he could at least fish for sunfish and bluegill.

We had a decent year with largemouth bass early in the season.  We eventually went out night fishing.  One night, we were on a lake in our kayaks.  I had them tied together so I could help him since his arm was in a cast.  He yelled, "Dad!"  I looked over and he was hugging his fishing pole as it was nearly doubled.  He was holding on for dear life for quite a while before whatever he had snapped his line.  LOL  Being as we were night fishing, it could have been a largemouth, striper, pike or even a big ole' catfish.

We do catch and release quite a bit but we do keep some now and then.  I am pretty good with a knife and I can flilet the smallest of bluegill if necessary.  We kept the two trout we caught yesterday.

I used to do it a lot as a kid. Not so much anymore. But when we go to my in-laws in Michigan we will fish from their dock. My 4 year old daughter loves it.

Next spring my buddy has agreed to take her and I out in his drift boat. I figure we'll do a short trip and since she loves boats soo much the fishing will be a bonus if we catch something.

I fish local lakes and rivers for trout mostly but also catfish during the summer spring and into the fall. I also go out for salmon as often as my friend with the boat goes out and troll for chinook, coho, and pinks. My trolling rod is light action so it makes the catching and reeling part a lot of fun. I am also hopefully, getting a saltwater spincast reel this winter so I can do some surf fishing as well.

That is a nice looking rainbow, My biggest locally is a 13.5 inch triploid trout

I do I do.  I love saltwater fishing, but there will always be something special about a flyrod in a mountain stream.  I've been blessed to be able to do both quite a bit:

One of my favorite sights:

Especially when it becomes this:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3405/3218550403_2d447a2cf8_z.jpg

I own a small boat and fish year-round in the chesapeake bay... and I'm willing to brave the elements to get the biggest fish:

Winter at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (excuse me, that's my winter weight)...

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2303/2224041383_874a9b0e27_z.jpg

Best friend Graham who is my faithful first mate (the point of this picture is to show you how light the tackle is that we use... that's a 1oz jighead and a 6 inch plastic fished on 10 pound test braid)...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3266/3126177779_b53afce907_z.jpg

Few things make me happier than the end of a 10+ hour day that looks like this:

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2282/2224040419_c7bfb741c6_z.jpg

We're now into March and back home in the Marlyand portion of the chesapeake bay:

When a powerboat makes it too easy, I sometimes mix it up a bit:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3085/2346718498_591bf1116a_z.jpg

If you look closely, you'll see how much I love fishing... yes my kayak has electronics:

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/101/261039179_708d883569_z.jpg

Fighting the biggest trout I've ever caught... in Montana in 2009 (that's an 8 weight):

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3270/2931658990_7e607fd1bb_z.jpg

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3223/2931659296_8ab63dbef8_z.jpg

I'm fine with tiny little trout out of an alpine lake too (this was in the Tetons and a hopper fly was a guaranteed fish on every cast... watching dozens of trout torpedo out of the depths as soon as your fly hit the water)...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3284/2930800243_c937abaca6.jpg

Lest you think I'm a fishin purist, I'll take "junk fish" too (I caught this fishing with a stranger I had met at the ramp a few minutes prior when he was launching his boat and I was there to just buy a permit for the year)...

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/131/408368043_39057c8d5f_z.jpg

When all else fails, you can always stop by the wreck on the way home for some pullage:

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3094/2813079386_72fac23680_z.jpg

His big sister (both sharks were alive in these pictures, released moments later, and swam away with vigor)...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3202/2812230569_e97013ef9b_z.jpg

A lot of epic memories... but really it's not about the fish...

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/91/241785263_bcaf2fc31f_z.jpg

PS - I enjoy fishing.

We live on a lake, but I don't like to eat fish and if I am going to be on the water I would much rather be doing something more active like skiing or paddling. However, my 6 year old wants to fish, so I am learning how to catch something other than pan fish. We have caught some perch and bass, but he wants walleye (doesn't everyone) and northern so I am still figuring out stuff like roach rigs, shinners, and lindys.

Cool.

Odd story... I ride with a guy who use to be a pro cyclist, for 4 years. Although it was in his early 20's.

At some point after that he moved from Spain to the States so he could become a bass fisherman.

He now competes on the weekends and has a sponser. Although a day job too.

Yep, true story.
