Arch-Bishop of BT 10278 Pittsburgh | Subject: West Virgnia? Ok... so suddenly there appears this sub-forum without any explanation... and I know... there probably doesn't need to be one, but is this for all of the BT'ers who are residing in WV? So how many WV residents do we have? Peace, Brian |

Arch-Bishop of BT 10278 Pittsburgh | Subject: RE: West Virgnia? Hi there! Welcome! I am fairly new, only been here for about a month now. It is rather amusing that they place all WV'ers in one forum even though we can be hours apart... Northern panhandle, eastern panhandle, kanawha County... So even though you just signed up, have you done Tri's before? Peace, Brian |

Arch-Bishop of BT 10278 Pittsburgh | Subject: RE: West Virgnia? Hi Steve. If you are in Fairmont, you might want to check out Morgantown Multisport . I haven't been able to attend yet, but they seem to have a decent calendar of events. I had thought about that New River tri... dunno though... You should also think about the two tri's in Morgantown... certainly the one in August. Peace.

I looked on ipalyoutside.com about the Morgantown Tri. Looks like something I can shoot for. A friend did the New River Tri., KICKED his ! Might be biteing off more than I can chew. Thanks for the reply! Later- Steve |

New user 5 Morgantown WV | Subject: RE: West Virgnia? Hi - I'm new to tri too, but I've been slowly training since early September here in Morgantown. Watching the SS&P Tri in August was very motivating. I was curious if you knew some good places to go for a good long bike around here akustix? I ride on the Rails Trails when its a bit warmer out but I am already growing bored of it and could use some hills/varied terrain to spice it up. Any suggestions? |

I haven't enough change in my pockets to buy a new one. You can also check Pathfinder on High St... I haven't gone in there yet. But if you really want a tri-specific bike you might have to go to Pittsburgh for one... You might check with the Morgantown Multisports folk. They meet the last Wednesday of the month at the WVU rec center. They might have more info. Peace, |

I ride on the Rails Trails when its a bit warmer out but I am already growing bored of it and could use some hills/varied terrain to spice it up. Any suggestions? I use the trails for my long rides often. The roads here as I am sure you know are not the most bike friendly. *shiver* But I do some road work to get hill training. I will often combine the trail and roads to get some of that in... I guess what I am trying to say is that I don't have any REALLY good routes. I am going to do the Mountaineer Tri on July 1 and I know that course includes Fort Martin hill... so I better get on my horse and ride. For my first two tri's this past summer though, logging time in the saddle on the rail trails worked just fine, especially going out the Decker's Creek trail toward Masontown. Once you are past Sabraton, it is all uphill... That is a good long ride... especially the return trip! So what tri's are you planning on doing this year? SSS in August? Any others? Peace, |

New user 5 Morgantown WV | Subject: RE: West Virgnia? In my mind I'm preparing for the SSS, but I will see how my fitness/training is later in teh spring to see if I can take on the olympic distance of the Morgantown tri. This will be my first, and everything I have ever read says to do a sprint distance first. I have confidence in my bike and run, it's the swimming I've just started and realized within 5 minutes that I have a LONG road ahead of me before I'm ready to swim competitively. Aside from those two I don't know of others in the area, although I'd be happy to do another sprint by next summer (all this work should be put to some use!) Are you in the Morgantown Multisport club? Have you heard anything good/bad/neutral about it? |

There are a couple others around that are probably worthwhile. But I have only done SSS here. I also did one while on vacation in RI which was my first. I do not belong to MM... I have so many evening meetings that one more can be a burden on my family. I would like to be there and check it out sometime. Hey... if you ever want to ride or run together, let me know. I am slow, but if you don't mind that... I would be up for it. Peace, Brian |

Member 20 Fairmont WV | Subject: RE: West Virgnia? Hey Preacherman, thanks for the reply,I'll check out Walmsley. I guess I should have made it more clear, I'm not looking for a tri. bike, just a bike that wil make it through a tri. I to dont have the extra cabbage to buy a 1000.00 $ bike . Are you going run in the half mary in Jan.? I might, never run that far before... Later,Steve Edited by slashwv 2006-12-11 3:00 PM |

I have been really impressed with their service and care. The folks there are really knowledgeable... and they didn't even laugh when I walked in and said that I was doing a tri. They are great. One of the guys I talked with said that an entry level road bike was about $650. And I won't be running the half-mary in Jan. After the turkey trot I realize I need to train for a half-marathon. I will be looking at 10k's and maybe a 15k in the future. I need to get my running up to at least that far for the Oly in July. Peace, |

I have just completed my 5th Marathon so I may be able to help with distance running. I did two sprint tri's this summer on my mountain bike. I made one slight alteration. I had slicks put on for the road riding. Besides... if you train on a heavy @$$ MTB, by the time you switch to a road bike, you will be blazing fast! Or in my case, moderately speedy. But really think about slicks. They upped my speed by at least 1 mph. Peace, |

Expert 997 North Central WV | Subject: RE: West Virgnia? Hey folks, I never thought to see if there was a WV group on BT. I am the president of Morgantown Multisport. In addition to the club, there are yahoo groups for triathletes, cyclists, runners and hashers all from the Morgantown/Fairmont area so you have plenty of folks to go to for advice. The yahoo group names are morgantowntri, monbikeclub, morgantown_running and wvhhh, respectively. If you are local to our area, our club meetings (Morgantown Multisport) are free to the public and are a great way to meet the local triathletes. We are also hosting a 1 mile race (run only) on February 11, 2007 so if you want to come out and see where you are at, this could be a good place to do so. Anyway, feel free to sign up for the yahoo groups. They are free - you do not have to be a member of Morgantown Multisport to be on the tri list. I will try to remember to check out this WV forum more often. Cheers, Leah |

ARGH! What time is the race on Feb. 11? I would like to do the race, but Sunday races don't work for me... if they start in the AM, since I am a pastor. I didn't see the race on the MM website. Are there details yet? And I signed up for the Yahoo group. THanks for the info. Peace, Brian |
