Originally posted by mcmanusclan5 Originally posted by brigby1 Family event at a race over the weekend. Was with my brother, sister, her husband and a friend of hers. First time for the last two. Back on a tri bike, so back to fastest bike split. Course isn't really hard, but does have some smaller hills on it. Another gear would have been helpful for me near the top of a few as I used the flat land gear set, but oh well. Sister loved having the hills out there in spite of training on flat ground. Realized how flat the Irongirl (and therefore Pleasant Prairie) was and the entertainment factor of this is way better. The other two were really excited to finish, especially the part about not drowning on the swim. Even though I told them the water was only waist deep at the turn (and yes, it actually was). Family races ROCK! Sounds like you got a good power workout in, too, with that gear set. So, are the newbies hooked??? Matt The girls are. I think the husband is, but he's a bit more mellow than the other two. It's especially good to know that some terrain is ok, and actually preferred. Though a flat run is still appreciated. |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014 v.2 thread2 CLOSED (Poptart/pet pic bribes?) I would like to share a happy story. When I got home from Lake Placid back in July...wait...amend that a little...when I finally got around to putting my wetsuit back on its hanger in its storage spot mid-August after being home from Lake Placid for a few weeks, I noticed that the neck of my wetsuit was ripped about 3" near where the Velcro flap. The only thing that kept if from ripping lower was a seam reinforcement. After a live chat session with an Xterra rep (that's the brand it is), she suggested contacting one of the three companies they deal with for repairs. I did, and my wetsuit got boxed up and sent to Oceanside, CA, and I got it back Friday, all sewn/patched up, good as new!! YAY!! They allow you to state the date you need it back by and they make the effort to return it by that time. It sure beat having to buy a new wetsuit! |

I know the feeling. I worked in downtown Denver when the Democratic National Convention was here in 2008. We had snipers on our building's roof and there were armed vehicles with police in SWAT gear driving all over the place. It makes me very grateful that I don't live somewhere where that kind of police/military presence is commonplace. |

I love the fact that you found so much positive in that and actually tried to get it repaired. I think I would have gotten frustrated and thrown it away. I'll take a way a lesson from this |

I considered just getting a new one since this one is 4 years old, but $11 x 2 for shipping and $18.50 for the repair sounded a whole lot better than $150 (sale price, if you can catch it) or $300. If there is another sizeable tear down the road I'll probably replace at that point. |

I'd try to be like Erin and make some hip Star Wars quip but I'm a complete dodo about such things. I'd probably say something related to a completely different movie/series/universe/whateveryoucallit. It does bring to mind Space Balls, though. Anybody else remember that movie? |

Master 3870 | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014 v.2 thread2 CLOSED (Poptart/pet pic bribes?) I tried to catch up a bit... Stacey- love the beach pic. I'm sure you'll be taking lots of walks along that view. Ben- you're doing some serious tri recruiting Glad you all had a good time. Ann-Marie - this might help with Tom's idea Melanie- nice that your wetsuit issue worked out so well! Jonathan- that's horrible about the bikers. I can't imagine that she won't have survivor's guilt, but I hope she'll eventually be able to use it in a positive way.

Master 3870 | Subject: RE: Manatee Mentors 2014 v.2 thread2 CLOSED (Poptart/pet pic bribes?) Mountain bike relay race this weekend. I've never done either kind, so any advice from those who have? I'm taking the second and last legs, and I'm hoping the riders have thinned out a bit by then. Based on previous finish times, I think I'll have 2+ hours waiting for my partner. After wandering around and cheering, staying hydrated, fueled, warm and stretched, anything else I "should" do while I bide my time? |
