Pumped up to watch the race today!

I don't know about Jacobs, but I'm with you that I wouldn't be surprised to see Frodeno and Kienle on the podium.  Hoping Starky can do something special today, and rooting for Andreas as well.

Here's the link for the streaming for anyone interested.

Andy Potts takes a huge lead out of the water, followed by a strong bike split and then hangs on for dear life on the run.

Ok, maybe I just want someone to validate my own strategy for once.

I'd like to see Kienle win as well but I'm going with Frodeno, Raelert, Crowie just to be different.

For the women, Steffan (using my aforementioned strategy), Rinny and Ryf

As I said in another thread. German, Belgium and Switzerland are my favorites, men and women.
I would love to see Marino do well.

I wonder if the women working together would have the impact of the men working together.

Fred, you mean you want to talk about triathlon on a triathlon forum?  That's crazy talk!

I think your picks are right on, especially regarding Rinny.

She won WC 70.3, has won back to back races, is coached by Brett Sutton and seems to have this killer attitude while racing.
She is charming...and wait for it.....speaks French :-)

On the men keep an eye out for Nils FromHold
Between him, Frodeno, Kienle and a bit back Raelert....hey how about Farris....that's a lot of German fire power
Van Lierde, Aernouts and a bit back Marino...the Belgians will be strong

Did you know those Belgians are soldiers ? They are paid by the military to train. Crazy

Does anyone here think Potts has a legitimate chance at winning?  Or is he just simply not good enough to do it at Kona

Ability wise - yes. I just wonder if she has enough left after a great season of racing. Personally I just think she won't have enough left to call upon at the end of this race. But it should be entertaining to watch.

Potts is one of my favorite athletes & I hope he does have a great race. It would be great to have him on the podium. Truthfully though, I don't think he can win. Mostly for the reasons Fred lists. He is not going to back off on the swim, so he would have to be out front all day. Maybe somehow he hitches on to Starky, gets into T2 second & then can have just enough run to get to the finish ahead of the swift runners.

I don't think he does.  I think the only way it could happen is if he gets a big lead on the swim that lets him get out alone on the bike long enough that the uber bikers have enough time to break away from the main pack and he tags along on their train to T2 when they roll by him.

No chance at overall title because of a Combination of things:

  1. He's too big.
  2. Not a strong enough cyclist.
  3. Has incentives from sponsors to go too hard on the swim.
  4. He's too big.

Always makes me sad. I'd like to see Andy win. Haha.

I think Potts is a great ambassador for triathlon regardless and helps to push the sport and maybe make the swim a bit more relevant in his way because he dominates. He's also said "Hi" to me once..so were basically bffs.

M, you just like guys named Andy ;-)  The fact that he's a stand up guy and swims is a bonus.  I'm also a fan. Watched him after the finish at Timberman this year. His race was a bust after a long mechanical on the bike. He wasn't happy. But he shook it off and was spending time with a group of teens who were thrilled to be getting advice from a pro. Don't think we'll be talking about him any more in this thread tho.

I'm rooting for the guy on the left of this (yep, that's me hangin' with Andy Potts)
<---------------

Also keeping a big rooting interest for Colin Cook, BT's very own (aka PeakTriCoaching, previously "hockeyhands"). this is his 3rd straight time at Kona. He is also a great guy, was the first BT'er I ever met, and a huge help to me when I started in this. Go Colin!!!

Sister Madonna made the swim cutoff...84 years old, I think. The bar keeps getting raised and we're going to have someone who's 100 years old finish this race one day...

I met Andy after he won LP. He's a really cool guy. I wish he'd come to my birthday party.

For anyone who thinks Potts size puts him out of the running, one word- Macca. If Macca can do it, so can Potts. I think the balance for him hangs on race - day course conditions and his nutrition plan. That said, this isn't his year. O'Donnell is my 'Merican favorite.

From couch potato to a tri in 8 weeks. It was the most fun I've had in a long time. The race organizers had it down and there were no problems at all. This was the perfect first tri, in my opinion.

My expectations for the quality of this years’ Triathlon world championship were fulfilled. This was because of the superb location that is like no other along with having the top triathletes present.

There is a marvelous destiny out there waiting for you too, but only if you are willing to take chances and put yourself on the line.
