Originally posted by tigrrruns Woah. So much going on here. So many races and good stuff. Congrats to all you movers and shakers. I did the worst race of my life ever yesterday.I didn't drown (but almost did- literally) AND I am hooked. AND I trained but not keeping up my training log does not allow for much analyzing of what I could do differently. I guess I'm going to have to start doing that. I even wrote a race report. I don't know how to show you where it is though.

Can't remember - was this your first tri?

Go in to Edit the report. All the way at the bottom is a "Make This Report Public" button. Then we can see it.

Kudos for having the link open in a new window!

Maybe this will work? http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp...

Yeah, getting comfortable with pain is a big thing.  Learning to be ok with discomfort is something that makes us us.  E.g. "I had a great race.  It hurt, but I had fun."

I get funny looks when I say that.

I get funny looks when I tell people I'm training for a tri.  Of course, they all immediately think of Kona!  Speaking of which, Tom, have you decided whether you're going to do an IM next year?

Originally posted by JJ- Well I survived my first road race. Some of you have seen on strava but for those that aren't it went really well right up until the end. I stayed in the lead pack the entire race and with 1000 meters to go I positioned myself about 3-4 back for the sprint. With 600 meters to go someone hit me hard from behind and broke my rear wheel. I stayed upright but my wheel was totally locked up. My race was over. Had to get off and carry my bike the last 1/2 mile. While it's not how I wanted to finish the day I did finish. It was fun and I've really improved on the bike over the last few months.

Oh, Jonathan, you made my heart go into my throat when I started reading, "...someone hit me hard from behind..." then thankfully I saw it was followed by "...and broke my rear wheel."  As someone who has seen numerous bike races and numerous bike race crashes, I was very concerned that is how your story was going to end.  Although you aren't happy with the race, I'm VERY glad you didn't crash!  Congrats on a strong race (up until the wheel hit) and finishing your first race!  Keep up the good work, and continue to keep the rubber side down.

Hi, Pod.  Quick check-in after my race.  It went great!!  I ended up finishing 13/24 in my AG with a finish time of 1:43:50.  Really happy with the swim (7/24!!), bike was ok, run was slower than planned but ok.  It was pretty hot by the time I got onto the run and there was no shade.  If I'd gone any faster, I'm sure I would have gotten the typical cramps/nausea.  The biggest glitch was T1 when my wetsuit got caught on my timing chip and I couldn't get the dang thing off.  Argh!!!  Oh, and I know I was well-hydrated because I managed to pee all over myself throughout the run.   Guess I'm officially a triathlete now!!!!!

I'll write a race report later.  I have a Broncos game to watch and a nap to take.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats on peeing yourself!!!!

Oh yeah, congrats on the race, too

YAHOO awesome. Post pics :P

Hope you get the saddle stuff sorted. An awful lot of people go skinnier firmer saddles when they're really kickazz T.I.T.S.ers. Like you. Just one anecdotal review ...

Gah!  I need to NOT have to work... especially on Mondays - look at how much STUFF happened around these parts!

Mary - OMG - you peed yourself, you're a true triathlete now!!  And HUGE CONGRATS on your race!! :D

Emily - I'm really glad there was no deathiness for your race, getting to the finish line of the race is a lot easier that way

Jonathan - I can't begin to tell you how happy I am that you have awesome recovery skills

Erin - that's a heckuva bike ride you did - yowza!

Yanti - you're one of the BT Gods and YOU can't get this fixed?  Dang.  We're all doomed.

As for me... I finally have a FULL couch, not just 2/3rds of one, I had 2 very hot & humid sloggy days of training, aaaannnnd, I'll hopefully find out later today if Tony and I will have two shiny, red motorcycles to add to the family.  WOOOOT!

Oh, and less than TWO WEEKS until I get to have him & the kittehs here in Austin with me.  YAYYYY!

I had a really good first week of marathon training. my 10K went surprisingly well and then the icing on the cake was getting in a 17-miler the day after followed by 12 today. Which means 39 miles in 3 days. I think my fitness is creeping back. Just in time, too!

I'll post my RR shortly.

No.  I'm planning on doing at least a half, but I'm ultimately happy doing the short stuff.  I might do one sometime if I can continue to build my base without injury.  I'd love to go a solid season without a problem.

Although, if I could get by on training 12-15 hrs/wk, I might consider an IM.  I don't want to train a whole lot more than that.  What do you say manatees? Can I train for an IM on 12-15 hrs?

That depends on your goals for the IM and the consistency with which you can get that time in.

Y'all remember the cyclist that was hit down the street from me? Well another cyclist (this time a friend) was hit in the same area. Broken back and bad laceration to her head. She was in the hospital for a week and after several surgeries is being released today. That said....yesterday we did a cycling awareness Vigilance Ride and had over 200+ cyclist. It was great to see the community come together and ride together for a cause. We had police escort and parade permits and rode a 8 mile loop through town.

We are really struggling with cycling awareness in our area and my hope is to try and get some PSAs, some billboards, and rides like this to continue the awareness.

Man I feel like I'm trying to catch up from 2 weeks worth of post.

Several have messaged me here and on facebook about my bike. Thanks for the concerns (It's all about the bike!)

My new zipp 404 has a broken spoke and the derailer hanger was bent. They bent the hanger back and had to order a spoke. A normal wheel will still roll on a broken spoke but most high end wheels will bend so much that it rubs the frame. This is why I had to carry the bike. I'm riding a borrowed 404 for my Hotter'n Hell Hundred this weekend.

I'm not sure if I ever showed y'all a picture of my new road race bike with race wheels. Here is is

Awesome Manatee news going on in here! I still need to read the RR's (oh and write one) but DH and I are headed to western Colorado to catch some USA Pro Challenge and hopefully get Jensie's autograph before he fades in to history.

Oh and regarding the awareness ride... Albuquerque does one every year. It's run by the people who build and place the ghost bikes. It goes right down one of the major streets through downtown (on Route 66). They call it "Can You See Us Now". My boys and I did it last year.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
